Ozone C4 2015 - Design Tech Talk

he 2015 C4 fulfills top Freestyle and Wakestyle riders needs, whilst maintaining ease of use and controllability for all conditions Free Riding.

The specifically developed planform and arc combined with our classic Ozone 4-line pulley-less bridle setup delivers a superior C-kite with feel, handling and de-power. Refined canopy profiles aid kite stability during unhooked maneuverers and increase the C4s pop and drop reactivity, making freestyle riding accessible to all rider levels.
Both hooked and unhooked kite-loops are made easy thanks to a progressive forward-driving turn, generating consistent power and lift throughout the loop. When it comes to hitting kickers and sliders, the C4 gives you confidence, providing a smooth predictable pull allowing you to focus on your line.
Each size of the C4 has been refined to suit the wind strength, we have maintained the same feeling across all sizes which translates to more moves landed! The size range also provides choice for a wide range of rider weight and abilities.
The Variable Bridle Geometry settings give the option of two kites in one, and takes only a short moment to change with no lines to add or remove. These two settings boast advanced unhooked attributes and Free Ride easy to reach performance.

New School - The C4 ships standard on this setting, offering a heavier and direct feel, with a more powerful load up and pop perfectly suited to Freestyle and Wakestyle riders.

Free Ride - The Free Ride setting offers a lighter bar feel and increased de-power which is ideal for Freeriding and good in the waves. To use this setting simply shift the middle bridle lines to the pigtail knot closest to the leading edge.
Bar pressure settings allow you to further tune the C4 to your personal riding style and preference. The attachment closest to the trailing edge offers lighter bar pressure and faster turning. The attachment closest to the leading edge offers heavier bar pressure and slower turning.
As with all our kites we use top of the line materials and combined with our very own factory quality is second to none. The new C4 is constructed with quality proven Teijin D2 canopy material and Teijin Dacron providing a crisper feel and a stronger kite.

"Te Tainui" Sharing the Ocean from F-One

Once again the F-ONE team went off to discover new landscapes and live an extraordinary adventure. Raphaël SALLES put on his captain's hat for the time of a far-off journey to meet his Tahitian team and experience the magic surrounding their idyllic islands. Accompanied by his faithful sidekicks as well as newcomers, they went on to board two catamarans for 25 days of pure happiness in another world.
Tahiti is well and truly as you can imagine: wild, powerful, with the force of the ocean being ever-present and where sharing and wisdom are common values within a whole people.

BOIRA - Tarifa

Tarifa has always been recognized for its good winds and its extreme climate, which combine to make one of the best training spots out there. In this video we try and show you the traditional yet very touristic city where Jerome, Manu and Maxi grew up.

"BOIRA" is a word that the fisherman use to call the mist that forms when the Mediterranean sea meets the atlantic ocean, it's because of this mist that during the 9 days we had to film the wind didn't corporate and we had to look for an alternative spot.

2015 Liquid Force Hifi-X

PACKED WITH PERFORMANCE-ENHANCING FEATURES AND STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY, THE HIFI-X2 IS THE CHOICE OF CHAMPIONS.

Designed with input from future World Champion Christophe Tack, the HiFi-X2 is the kite of choice for the planet’s most demanding freestyle and competitive riders. Whether you’re into new school technical tricks, massive kiteloops, or old school freestyle, this five-line, true C-kite is engineered to help you evolve and perform like never before. Last year’s HiFi was so good that Tack didn’t want to change much to the 2015 model. However, the HiFi-X2 features a number of subtle refinements, such as a symmetrical panel layout for extended longevity and uniform stretch. Addition- ally, this legendary kite uses less Dacron material, which means less weight, better durability, faster flying, and a slightly crisper feel. Overall you can expect the same high-caliber performance as before: explosive pop, controllable slack, light bar pressure, and a direct, precise C-kite feel. Flying at the center edge of the wind window, the HiFi-X2 features adjustable trailing edge connections for custom turning speed and bar impulse/feedback. Featuring Liquid Force Bomb-Proof Construction, durability will never be an issue, as the kite is engineered to take a beating as you learn new tricks.

"My Pocket Beach" by Paulino Pereira

It was a windy Summer in Portugal, but we didn´t had that lucky with the waves. The good thing of the small waves was that we could get fun sessions riding strapless freestyle tricks. Some of the days were recorded and here you can see them. Seat down and enjoy the video featuring Paulino Pereira in his Pocket Beaches.

Tona Boards: The Flow

Inspired by his love of surfing, Dre wanted something that's really fluid in turns while still maintaining the pop and edge control you need for performing powerful manoeuvres. The subtle concave design allows for smooth rail to rail transitions while maintaining lots of grip while edging on the rail. This unique design also allows for a very smooth ride in choppy conditions and super soft landings from big jumps.

BWSurf 2015 Noise Pro Kite

We've just released our latest surf-specifc kite in time for the Australian summer season. The New Noise Pro 2015 builds upon the foundations set by its predecessor, updating its look with slick new graphics. To celebrate the summer down under, the new Noise Pro is available at 40% off RRP. For now...

“We were so happy with the performance of the 2014 Noise Pro, Dano and I decided not to reinvent the wheel. The same features and functionality have been maintained in the current model, however we’ve completely updated the appearance and managed to decrease the price.” Ben Wilson, Team Rider/Director.

The Noise Pro is specifically designed to withstand the rigors of kitesurfing in the waves whilst providing the high performance demanded by elite team riders such as Ian Alldredge & Josh Mulcoy. This season’s Noise Pro features a slightly altered bridle to further increase the kite’s down-the-line drift and surf performance.

Most noticeably, the graphics have been remodelled and the colours updated, now offering blue, red, silver, yellow and green accents on 6m, 8m, 10m, 12m & XXL respectively.

NEO 2015 Product Clip

Last year the NEO was redeveloped as a pure wave-riding kite, focusing on the qualities that riders demand in waves. The kite not only impressed the riders, but also won several magazine tests in its class. This year the NEO has been completely reworked to further improve its performance. The NEO still has amazing drift capabilities, but the top end has also been improved while keeping the amazing low end. The kite has excellent sheet and go characteristics, meaning you can either dump power, or use it according to where you are on the wave and how it is breaking. this will get you out of difficult situations, but it also makes riding waves easier and flying the neo is very instinctive. For 2015 we recommend using a kite 1-2 sizes smaller than you would normally as the low end is so impressive! The world’s best wave riders all love the neo and when you fly one on the waves, you’ll fall in love too!

The Epic Way Of Landing A Kite

Dimitri’ and ‘safe’ aren’t necessarily two words we associate strongly with each other. Crazy, extreme, fully lit, overpowered, kiteloop, freestyle are the words that spring immediately to mind. But hey, if he says it’s safe then it has to be worth a few minutes of your time to watch, surely? As usual he doesn’t disappoint.

Liquid Force Foilboard

One of the biggest buzzes at the Surf Expo show on Day 1 was the new Liquid Force Foil that is set to retail for $1,595 complete with board!
2015 Liquid Force Foilboard

The shape is what Liquid Force figured out to be the best recreational and easy to learn on design that doesn't have the limiting factors of the earlier designs that were easy to use but wouldn't go fast, or fast designs didn't plane off at really low speeds. What Liquid Force decided on was a good all-around design. Everything packs into a small bag making it easy to travel with. The beauty of the system is you can also unbolt the foil and ride the Foilfish/Kitefish with thrusters like a regular surfboard. The new foil is built primarily from extruded Aluminum with the goal of keeping the costs down and making the replacement of parts easier. It's not carbon that explodes and has catastrophic failure and then you are into a new expensive carbon piece. If you break one part you can buy a new aluminum fuselage, new aluminum mast or a new plate. Carbon wings will also be available. Why foil? Team rider Jason Slezak describes the sensation of foiling to the feeling of riding bottomless powder all the time!

Bonus Track: AQUA (Only Girls Inside)

Welcome Away

“Welcome Away” was filmed and edit by Patrick Wieland and pictures Sam Light and Alex Fox back in Oregon on another wake-style onslaught like nothing you have ever see.

Welcome Away is a true statement to the new kiteboarding culture.
Here is what Sam and Patrick had to say about this video: “Repetition and competition from the same mold only results in carbon copies of pre-existing mantras. Flee distantly from the diluted future to an individual saturated self realization. Rover the outward scopes of the imagination and escape to an oasis of self fulfillment inches away from the nirvana of infinite fun.”

The future is bright and blinding, come join us on this odd, yet inspiring journey through the gorge and experience a different approach to what kiteboarding can be.

A Freeride Project rail set - Triple-S 2014 - Court, Hadlow, Cunnigham

The 2014 Triple-S invitational is one of the world biggest wake style kiteboarding events. Hosted every year by Real Watersports, it is a unique place to ride. With the Wave kickers on the sea and the full slider park that can be set up in the sound, there is a bit of everything.

After the event I linked up with Aaron Hadlow and Craig Cunningham and we had a Freeride session on the North rooftop rail. A few freestyle tricks thrown in for good measure.

Kite Tender – Worlds first commercial kite boat?

Our sport started way back when, since its inception we’ve largely stuck to doing our thing on a board, a few riders have tried it on skis and now hydrofoils are making waves. Well I’ve tried the future and its boat shaped.
After speaking with Peter Renssen, the brains behind the Kite Tender project a few months ago and talking about the great sailing around the Isle of Wight and Cowes week, he threw the boat on the roof of his car and drove from Holland to my home spot on the IOW. Peter and I put the Kite Tender boat through its paces, taking it out to pit it against boats much larger to see how it performs. Getting speeds on 21 knots and averaging 17 knots, this little two man kite powered dingy is a formidable sailing machine that has an interesting future.

If you are skeptical about it now, Tom dares you to have a go in one as even if you can’t Kiteboard, this is a great training tool and could help to bridge the gap between sailing an Kiteboarding into the future. Could this be the worlds first commercial kite boat? Check out www.kitetender.nl for more information on the project.

K2 Kiteboat

"The Kiteboat Project has existed in some form since 1997, when Don Montague first began attaching kites to boats. Between 1997 and 2006, Don worked with a team in Hawaii to develop kites for use with surfing canoes, small catamarans, and large motored cats; their accomplishments included wave-riding and several island crossings. Between 2006 and 2008, Don worked on modifying and testing the Trifoiler and Quadfoiler test platforms through Makani Power, a Bay Area wind power company that he co-founded in the fall of 2006. The current team began to take shape in late 2008, when the Kiteboat Project acquired funding from the Marine Science Technology Foundation and moved to its own workshop in Alameda. We have since secured other funding and have put together a team of marine architects, sailors, and software developers dedicated to realizing the Kiteboat vision through building and testing the first platform of its kind built specifically for kites. Our objective is to evolve waterborne transportation to use kites as propulsion. To date, kite propulsion has primarily been used for kitesurfing and in single-person traction kiting. In small-scale kiting, the force of the kite can be controlled by an individual holding on to the kite directly, but as the kite gets larger, harnessing its power becomes more difficult. The challenge is to develop winches, controls, and launch and recovery systems for larger kites, boat-specific kites for different conditions, and kite-specific boats and foil systems. Our mission is to design a purpose-built vessel that is specifically designed to harness kite power and to advance kite design and kite controls to the point that power-assisted or autonomously controlled kites can be used by a broad audience."
