Red Bull Battle of the Sund

The strait of Öresund, once the scene of a big naval battle between our two host countries, Sweden and Denmark is now the spot of a tough but exceptional Kiteboard competition.
About 200 Kiteboarders will start from the beach of Ribersborg on the Swedish side and race across the ocean towards Denmark, turn and head back as fast as they can. Wind and Waves will test their endurance and persistence during the distance of 40 km.

A Freeride Project rail set - Court, Hadlow, Cunnigham

The 2014 Triple-S invitational is one of the world biggest wake style kiteboarding events. Hosted every year by Real Watersports, it is a unique place to ride. With the Wave kickers on the sea and the full slider park that can be set up in the sound, there is a bit of everything.

After the event I linked up with Aaron Hadlow and Craig Cunningham and we had a Freeride session on the North rooftop rail. A few freestyle tricks thrown in for good measure.

The New Pivot 2015 by Naish

Naish Kiteboarding announces the Pivot, a freeride and wave kite. The Pivot emerges as a all-around freeride/wave kite for a wide range of riders and styles.
What type of rider is the Pivot ideal for?
The Pivot is perfect for a wide range of riders! Its intuitive characteristics make it an amazingly forgiving kite that will make any kiter a better kiter, whether they’re learning their first tricks or jumps, riding their first waves (strapless or with straps), or attempting kiteloops. It features extremely forgiving steering, allowing the rider to focus solely on their performance and nothing more. Our R&D team even felt like kiteboarding became easier because everyone started practicing new tricks with tons of confidence!

Aside from being a fantastic freeride kite, the Pivot is also a great wave kite. Its lightweight design delivers smooth power, controlled turns and superior drifting in a variety of wind and wave conditions. The ABS bridle also helps decrease the amount of pull on the harness for forgiving strapless riding.
Key Features:
• Precision turns on a small axis with minimum power increase in the turn
• “Sheet-in and go” feel & easy jumping
• ABS bridle for consistent forward drive + maximum depower + no back-stalling
• Quick water relaunch
• Natural drifting effect
• Constant leading edge taper
Pivot Technology:
Angled Wing Tip = torsion transmission to entire LE and low drag on water for relaunch.
ABS Bridle = Consistent forward drive + maximum depower + no back stalling
Canopy Stabilizer = Trailing edge reinforcement for reduced flutter and canopy sheer/wear
Constant Leading Edge Taper = Increased rigidity in wing tip for sharper turning
Three-strut Design = Lightweight, light wind performance + faster turning
High Flow Valve = One way valve for reduced frictional force + easy inflation + immediate deflation

Swept Arc
The arc generates maximum projected area for power and lift while the swept design provides precision turning, control and ideal relaunch capabilities.
Power Foil Canopy
The power foil canopy has horizontal seam shaping. The result is a kite that creates instant lift.
Evolutive Profile
The profile’s depth and shape evolves along the airfoil, helping create a fast flying, stable kite with less back stalling. The center sections generate power thanks to a deeper profile, while the flatter profile in the tips minimizes drag and allows faster turning.
Radial Segmented Arc
The radial segmented shape uses short linear segments to accurately form the kite’s arc.
Low Drag Wing Tip
This wing tip geometry decreases the overall surface area of the non-lifting portion, greatly reducing drag. The more efficient the lift/drag ratio becomes, the faster the wing tip can move through the air. This allows the kite to be both quicker and more responsive through turns.
Octopus Inflation System
This proven, quick, and easy single-point inflation system creates uniform pressure in the struts and leading edge. Naish’s exclusive one-way internal valve ensures that the pressure within the struts does not change during turns.
NEW Lightweight Solid Frame Construction
Every strut is attached to an optimized, lightweight frame consisting of heavy-duty dacron that is then sewn onto the canopy for unmatched resistance to wear and heavy loads.
Radial Load Distribution
All wing tips are designed with seams running parallel to the load generated by the flying lines. These seams carry most of the load and spread it higher into the canopy. This design helps prevent fatigue on the fabric and in the wing tip area.
